NIA Arrest ISIS Thrissur Module Leader: In a major security operation, on Wednesday the National Investigation Agency (NIA) successfully arrested the elusive leader of the ISIS Thrissur module in Chennai, preventing his attempt to flee the country.

The name of the leader is identified as Siyed Nabeel Ahammed. The Ameer (leader) of the Thrissur-based ISIS Module, was apprehended by NIA’s dedicated Fugitive Tracking Team. The team had been tirelessly working on the ground for several weeks to locate and arrested him. Finally they succeed on it.

Nabeel Ahammed managed to hide from the police and secretly for many days. He also managed to traveled secretly to different places in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for a long time. His detailed plan was to run away to another country with fake papers, and he wanted to pass through Nepal to make his escape.

Confiscation of Incriminating Evidence

During the operation, police officials seized a cache of incriminating documents and digital devices from Siyed Nabeel’s possession. This marks a significant breakthrough, with Nabeel becoming the third individual arrested in connection with this case since July.

Prior Arrest in July Operation
In an earlier operation carried out in July of this year, the NIA successfully tracked and apprehended Ashif alias Mathilakath Kodayil Ashraf from his hiding place near Sathyamangalam, Tamil Nadu.

The NIA started looking into this case on July 11 this year because they had reliable information. They used specific laws like the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. After careful investigation, they found that the ISIS group in Thrissur was planning to do terrorist acts in Kerala. They were also gathering information for these plans and raising money through illegal activities like robberies in the state.

The NIA underlined that ISIS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. It operates as a transnational militant Islamist terrorist organization. It is recognized by various aliases, including the Islamic State (IS) and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Additionally, it is known by its Arabic acronym Da’ish or Daesh. The group has been increasingly active in India, establishing modules in several states and actively recruiting young individuals who align with its jihadist ideology.

To counter the growing threat posed by ISIS, the NIA has launched a comprehensive crackdown on these modules, resulting in the apprehension of numerous ISIS members and operatives operating across different states. These efforts have effectively thwarted the banned organization’s terrorist activities, safeguarding national security.
