Preparations for the reconstruction and reinstallation of the iconic Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose statue at Rangirkhari in Silchar are in full swing. The project set to completed by January 23, 2025, the day of Netaji’s birth anniversary.
Addressing press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, MLA Chakraborty announced, “A Bhoomi Pujan ceremony is scheduled for this Sunday at Rangirkhari. During this event, the existing Netaji statue will be temporarily relocated to Gandhi Park. The ritual will take place between 12:03 PM and 2:55 PM. Public opinion carefully considered before finalizing these plans.”

He also stated, “The pedestal will be 9.5 feet high, with the statue itself standing 10 feet tall. Renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj, known for his work on the Netaji statue at India Gate and the Ram Mandir idols, is leading the design.”

The new statue, crafted by Arun Yogiraj will stand as a testament to patriotism and artistic excellence.

MLA Chakraborty shared that Arun Yogiraj is contributing to the project as a tribute to Netaji rather than a commercial endeavor. The sculptor’s costs expected to be ₹10–12 lakhs, covering taxes and transportation.
Budget and Beautification Plans
The total budget for the project estimated at ₹60–70 lakhs. Including the construction of a traffic rotary, beautification of the surrounding area, and infrastructure enhancements.
Specific allocations include:
- ₹30–32 lakhs for the construction of the rotary.
- Surrounding upgrades with chequered tiles, modern lighting, and improved pathways.
- Drain construction on three sides for better infrastructure.
Public Participation and Inauguration Plans
The committee treasurer Rudra Narayan Gupta said, “We are making every effort to inaugurate the statue on January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji. We hope to foster an atmosphere of patriotism and aim to have Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief guest for the grand event.”
Uttam Kumar Saha, the co-convener, assured that preparations are on track to meet the timeline. Other committee members, including Nihar Ranjan Paul, Debajyoti Swami and Shantanu Roy, were also present during the press briefing at Gandhi Bhawan on Friday.

The committee urged all residents of Silchar to participate in the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony and contribute to making the statue’s inauguration a memorable and patriotic event.
