A tragic incident took place during Mumbai ‘s peak office hours, five people lost their lives and three others injured after falling from two overcrowded local train that were crossing each other between Diva and Kopar stations on the Central Railway line. All the deceased age is between 30-35 years.
Mumbai Local Train Incident Occurred Around 9:30 AM
According to railway officials, the incident happened at approximately 9:30 am when two local trains—one heading toward Kasara and the other toward Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)—crossed paths. The passengers were reportedly standing on the footboards due to overcrowding and lost balance while the trains passed each other.
Commuters Fell Onto Tracks

Initial investigations suggest the victims were riding on the footboards, a common but dangerous practice during Mumbai’s congested rush hours. The sudden jerk and motion of the trains as they crossed, believed to have caused them to fall onto the railway tracks.
Victim Details and Rescue Operation
- Three of the deceased have been identified:
- Ketan Dilip Saroj (23) – Ulhasnagar resident
- Vickey Babasaheb Mukhidal (34) – Railway employee
- Rahul Santosh Gupta
The identities of the other two deceased passengers are yet to be confirmed.
The alert was first raised by the guard of the Kasara-bound train, prompting a quick response from railway officials and local police, who arrived at the scene with ambulances. The injured were rushed to Kalwa Hospital, where five declared dead.
CM Devendra Fadnavis Expresses Condolences to Mumbai Local Train incident victims
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered his heartfelt condolences on social media platform X (formerly Twitter):
“Deeply pained by the incident where 8 passengers fell from a local train between Diva and Mumbra stations, unfortunately leading to loss of lives. I offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We stand with them in this difficult time. The injured passengers had been immediately rushed to Shivaji Hospital and Thane Civil Hospital and are under medical treatment. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is closely coordinating all efforts. The Railway department has initiated an inquiry to find out the exact cause of the incident.”
Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and BJP leader Rahul Narwekar (@rahulnarwekar) says, “It is an unfortunate incident, the government, the railway administration will take necessary steps, but we have seen in last few years, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has done an unprecedented work in Mumbai circuit, but the population is swelling, when working capacity goes beyond, overcrowding happens, but this is unfortunate, we need to find a solution.” PTI
Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde stated to news reporter, “Today’s incident took place near Mumra during peak hours. Both an up local and a down local train were passing closely when the accident occurred… Unfortunately, four-five people have died in this incident. One of the injured was brought to Kalwa Hospital, while four others were taken to Civil Hospital for further treatment…”
Railways to Introduce Automatic Door Closure
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Railway Board has announced that:
- Automatic door closure systems will be installed in all new rakes currently being manufactured for Mumbai Suburban Railways.
- Existing rakes in service will be redesigned and retrofitted with door-closing mechanisms to enhance commuter safety.
