A tragic road accident took place in the Raipur area of Borkhola, Cachar, where an Alto Car lost control and plunged into Barak River on December 17, late night. In this accident a mother and her 1-year-old daughter died.
According to information, on Tuesday night at around 11:30 pm, Rais Uddin Barbhuiya with his wife Helena Begum Barbhuiya and his 1-year-old daughter was returning home after a doctor visit in Silchar. While returning in the area of Raipur, Borkhola while travelling through Masimpur-Katakhal Dyke the vehicle lost control and plunged in River Barak. In this area neither railing or reflectors was there where the road ended, the vehicle lost control in the darkness of night and fall into the river.
Rais Uddin Barbhuiya himself was driving the car. While Rai somehow escaped after breaking open the glass of the car, but he couldnโt rescue her wife and daughter. The vehicle swept away and drowned. He sustained injury and is currently under treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
SDRF Team along with Cachar SP Numal Mahatta accompanied police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving about the incident. Locals resident also rushed to the accident area. A large search operation launched by SDRF team and locals combing the river through overnight.
On Wednesday morning SDRF team with the help of locals and fisher man traced the car and recovered the car. The dead bodies of the mother and child recovered inside the car. The dead bodies sent to the Silchar Medical college and Hospital for a post mortem.
According to local reports, a local driver and fisherman named Robijul Ali traced the vehicle within 5 minute after reaching the river bank. In a short dive of 30 second the fisher man located the vehicle and tie a rope to pull. With the help of locals and family member of victim the accident car pulled out from the river.
After the operation SP Numal Mahatta said, โWe recovered the dead bodies of Raisโs wife and daughter and sent to SMCH for postmortem. The driver Rais Uddinโs is going under treatment and we will start a detailed investigation into the matter. Whether this is an accident or does it have any foul play needs to be investigated.โ
The Director General of Police, Assam, IPS GP Singh, has directed the SP of Cachar to examine all aspects of the accident to rule out foul play and take action if it was pre-planned.
Whether it was a genuine accident or something more remains a mystery for Cachar Police to investigate.
