A Shocking incident took place in Silchar Medical College and Hospital, unidentified miscreants broke into the dialysis centre on Sunday night. Extensive damaged caused to vital medical equipment.
The attackers has vandalized patients beds, several computers, furniture and crucial dialysis machine. Out of 14 machines, 9 have been completely destroyed – all imported from Germany. Hospital authorities uncertain about when repairs or replacements can be made.
The dialysis centre, operated by Apollo, caters to more than 30 patients daily. Most of the patients come from extremely poor backgrounds and cannot afford treatment at private hospitals. With the machines out of service, patient care has been severely disrupted.
A formal complaint has been filed at the Ghungoor Police Outpost, and an investigation is underway to identify and arrest the culprits. Security at the facility is currently handled by Home Guards.
