Microsoft CrowdStrike Outage: Many airlines, offices facing problem as Computer Screen lead to Blue screen of death

Microsoft CrowdStrike Outage has affected globally. It also affected many government offices as well as many Indian airlines. Millions of Windows has been experiencing the Blue screen death (BSOD) which caused the system suddenly shutdown or restart.

Microsoft in a message said that error has been caused due to recent CrowdStrike โ€˜Falcon Sensorโ€™ update.

Indian Airlines is facing technical issue due to Microsoft CrowdStrike Outage. They post a statement by saying, โ€œA global technical outage has affected the aviation industry. SpiceJet is ensuring that all its flights scheduled for today will depart. We are working closely with airports and relevant authorities to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety and comfort of our passengers. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.โ€

Another Airlines agency IndiGo also facing issue. They stated, โ€œOur systems are currently impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also affecting other companies. During this time booking, check-in, access to your boarding pass, and some flights may be impacted. We appreciate your patience.โ€

They also stated, โ€œAs our systems are impacted by an ongoing issue with Microsoft Azure, we are experiencing high volumes at contact centre. Please contact us only if your travel is within 24 hrs.โ€

Many flight has been cancelled due to Microsoft effect. IndiGo stated, “Flights are cancelled due to the cascading effect of the worldwide travel system outage, beyond our control. The option to rebook/claim a refund is temporarily unavailable. To check the cancelled flights, visit https://bit.ly/4d5dUcZ. We truly appreciate your patienceย &ย support.”

The Check in system in airports also facing slower process which results long queues.

Microsoft outage has affected check in system of airports used by Indian carrier including IndiGo, Air India Group, Akasa etc. since about 10:30 am Friday which leads slower process and long queues.

Airlines also facing new bookings, urging passenger not to make multiple bookings for a journey.

What is CrowdStrike?

CrowdStrike is a US based cybersecurity company. It is used by large organisations, government agencies and in critical place like airports and banks. Regular users do not use CrowdStrike anti-virus in system.

The CrowdStrike begins in 2011 and focused on government clients and high-profile cyber security. Foe example, it is the company that help US Government, make sense for North Korean hackers when they hacked Sony. Due to its high-profile status for fighting against hackers or even sponsored cyber-attacks, it is used in Government agencies.

For todayโ€™s problem CrowdStrike has posted a statement. They stated, โ€œCrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed. We refer customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide complete and continuous updates on our website. We further recommend organizations ensure theyโ€™re communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels. Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike customers.โ€
