Manipur Violence: On June 8, suspected militants attacked a police outpost and set several houses on fire in the Jiribam district of Manipur, an official said.
The attack has taken place at the Jiri Police outpost, which situated near Chotobekra, on the banks of the rivers. The attack started around 12.30 am, during which the police outpost was burned. Taking advantage of the darkness, multiple attacks has carried out in the Lamtai Kunou and Modhupur areas of a Metei village, where many house set on fire.
An officer of the police outpost in Borobekra in Jiribam subdivision said the suspected militants attacked this outpost at 2.30 a.m.
The officer also said that โthe suspected militants came in boats via the Barak River and attacked the police outpost in the dark.โ
A district officer from Jiribam, Manipur, said that multiple houses has burnt in the attack, the exact number is not confirm yet. Today, June 8, morning a commando contingent has deployed from Imphal to assist the security operation against the militants.

Several videos have posted where we can see the militants setting fire to homes and celebrating on camera.
The newly elected congress MP from Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seats said during a press conference, โI have talked with district officials of Jiribam. They said some reinforcements have received. While those in the town are provided security, those in peripheral areas are not being provided security.โ
More than 200 people belonging to the Meitei community have evacuated from the areas of Lamtai Kunou and Modhupur and moved to relief camps after violence broke out. The houses of the people have set on fire by the suspected militants.
The tension erupted after a Metei man killed by suspected militants on Thursday evening. After the incident the locals, in anger, set abandoned houses on fire, which belong to the Kuki community.

Locals also protested to return their licensed gun, which was taken during the election. Jiribam has remained unaffected until now, since May 2023. But now this area is also causing unrest.
Jiribam, known for its diverse community, as people from different communities, like Meiteis, Muslims, Nagas, Kukis, Bengalis, etc., lived there.
