In a shocking incident, the body of an infant boy, estimated to be around 5 to 6 months old, was found near the Katigorah–Badarpur connecting Gamon Bridge along National Highway 6 in Thandapur, Katigorah, in Assam’s Cachar district.
The discovery was made by passers-by who noticed the infant’s body wrapped in a blanket by the roadside. They immediately alerted the authorities. Although the area falls within Katigorah in Cachar, the Panchgram Police from neighbouring Hailakandi district—being the nearest police unit—responded to the call and retrieved the body in the presence of a magistrate.
Police have begun an inquiry to determine the cause of death. Whether the case involves murder or abandonment is yet to be confirmed. Further investigation is underway, and additional details are expected soon.
