The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formally sent a letter of intent to host 2036 Olympics, Paralympics. They sent the letter to the Future Host Commission, International Olympic Committee (IOC) on October 1, 2024, expressing India’s interest in hosting the Olympics and Paralympics Games in the subcontinent.
In August, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) initiated discussion with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission (FHC) as the initial step to secure the rights to host the 2036 Summer Games.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in India in 2036 has taken a significant step forward,” the source said.
“This monumental opportunity could bring substantial benefits, fostering economic growth, social progress, and youth empowerment across the country,” the source added.
India among the 10 countries interested to host 2036 Olympics Games
India is one of 10 countries interested in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games. In November 2022, the IOC began discussions with these countries.
The 10 countries that have shown interest in hosting the Games are Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara-Monterrey-Tijuana), Indonesia (Nusantara), Turkey (Istanbul), India (Ahmedabad), Poland (Warsaw, Krakow), Egypt (New Administrative Capital), and South Korea (Seoul-Incheon).
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will assign the hosting rights through a thorough selection process, which managed by the Future Host Commission.
On several Occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his willingness to host the 2036 Olympics and Paralympics in India. On Independence Day, he met athletes from the Paris Olympics at his residence in New Delhi and urged them to share their ideas on how they feel to go about preparations for the event in 2036.
“India is preparing to host the 2036 Olympics. In this regard, the input from athletes who have played in previous Olympics is very important. You all must have observed and experienced many things. We want to document this and share it with the government so that we don’t miss out on any small details in the preparation for 2036,” PM Modi added.
At the 141st IOC Session in Mumbai last year, PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to hosting the Olympics in 2036: “1.4 billion Indians are eager to stage the Games. We will do everything possible to organize the Olympics on Indian soil in 2036. This is a long-held dream of 1.4 billion Indians, and it requires your cooperation and support,” he added.
IOC President Thomas Bach came to the support of India, saying that there is a “strong case” for holding the Olympic Games in the country.
