In Guwahati, first HMPV virus (Human Metapneumovirus) case reported at Apollo Hospitals. The patient is 75 years old woman. Now she is being treated in Medical Unit 2 and is now stable and recovering without the need of additional respiratory support.
According to hospital statement, the patientโs husband has similar symptoms and is on oxygen support at times. โHis sample is being tested today for viral infections,โ it added.


Earlier, a 10-month-old child tested HMPV virus positive in Assam Medical college and Hospital in Dibrugarh. AMCH Superintendent Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan assured the public that the childโs condition is stable and there is no reason to worry. He stated, โThe child was admitted with a cold and subsequent tests confirmed HMPV. However, the baby is stable and under proper care.โ
In response, Dr. Abhijit Sarma, Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), stated about HMPV, explaining that it has been in India since 2001, with a few cases reported in 2011. The virus causes flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough, runny nose, respiratory infections, and headaches, and mostly affects children under five.
