Commuters faced heavy traffic congestion on National Highway 27 near Greenwood Resort in Guwahati ’s Khanapara after a large quantity of oil spilled onto the road.
According to sources, the spill occurred late Thursday night when a big crane travelling from Siliguri to Haflong was hit by another truck. The collision damaged the crane’s oil chamber, causing oil to leak onto the highway and making the surface dangerously slippery.
Traffic was severely disrupted, especially on the Guwahati-to-Jorabat stretch, resulting in long delays for commuters. Khanapara Traffic Police quickly reached the spot and spread sand over the oil-covered section to prevent accidents and ensure safer movement.
Although traffic has now been restored, police have advised motorists to drive cautiously while passing the affected area near Greenwood Resort until the cleanup is fully completed.
No injuries have been reported, and authorities are investigating the cause of the truck collision.
