Abhijeet Sarma, the Superintendent of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), confirmed that there are no monkeypox cases at the hospital right now. This statement comes after worrying reports from different media outlets claiming that a monkeypox death had happened there.
The initial reports state that Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati reports monkeypox case, where one person has died while being treated in the Neuro Surgery Department of the Cardiothoracic and Neuroscience Centre.
Health official identified that three individual who came in the contact with the deceased reported to be infected: a nurse, a technician, and a ward boy.
Apart from it, another individual who suffering from Monkeypox is reportedly is in a stable condition and is being monitored.
But Abhijeet Sarma stated that the case being reported is actually chickenpox, not monkeypox, which was mistakenly reported by the media.
Speaking to media he stated, โThere is no monkeypox case at GMCH.โ He also stated, โThe misinformation about monkeypox has caused unnecessary panic.โ
