On February 18, the Gauhati High Court granted interim bail to popular YouTuber Ashish Anil Chanchlani in connection with the ongoing controversy surrounding the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. The court has scheduled a final hearing for the case on March 7, 2025.
As part of the bail conditions, the Gauhati court has directed Chanchlani to cooperate with the Assam police and the investigation team within the next 10 days. The case is still under investigation, and further legal proceedings will determine the final outcome.
While hearing the anticipatory bail application, Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita noted that the FIR did not include specific allegations against Chanchlani. He also noted that the YouTuber had expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
Earlier, Assam Police filed FIR against five YouTubers and content creators, including Ashish Chanchlani and Ranveer Allahbadia, of engaging in vulgar and sexually explicit discussions during an episode of ‘India’s Got Latent.’ On February 10, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on social media that an FIR had been registered against these YouTubers and social influencers for promoting indecency.
The case is being investigated by the Guwahati Crime Branch under multiple legal provisions, including sections of the BNS 2023, the IT Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
