Five men from Assam have been detained for allegedly posting offensive and provocative content on social media in connection with Monday’s deadly explosion in Delhi, which claimed at least 12 lives and left several others injured.
Authorities identified the accused as Matiur Rahman from Darrang, Hasan Ali Mondal from Goalpara, Abdul Latif from Chirang, Wajhul Kamal from Kamrup, and Nur Amin Ahmed from Bongaigaon.
According to police sources, the arrests made following extensive cyber surveillance aimed at curbing the spread of communal hatred and the glorification of terrorism. The Assam Police reiterated that anyone using digital platforms to provoke violence or disturb public harmony would face immediate legal action.
The fatal blast occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station on November 10, when a slow-moving vehicle destroyed by a powerful explosion, triggering widespread panic and raising new concerns over urban security and terror threats in the country.
A day after the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly condemned the attack while speaking to reporters in Raha, Nagaon district. He urged citizens to remain united against any attempts to destabilize peace and revive terrorism.
