A chilling incident has shocked the people, where a woman allegedly burned by husband alive in Tezpur on Tuesday night.
The victim identified as Meghali Saikia, who died to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to locals, the accused, Jayanta Saikia, reportedly carried out the act in a drunken rage aftrer a heated argument with his wife.
An Witnesses stated that after the argument, Jayanta allegedly set Meghali on fire, leaving her with critical burn injuries. She then immediately rushed to the hospital, but despite efforts by doctors, she died during treatment.
Sonitpur police have arrested the accused husband and launched a full investigation into the case. Preliminary findings suggest that this is not Jayanta Saikia’s first run-in with the law—he had previously arrested in connection with another case.
The gruesome killing has sent shockwaves through the community, with locals expressing deep anger and grief. Residents of the area are now demanding strict legal action and swift punishment for the accused.
