During the Amrit Snan Mahaparbh on Mauni Amavasya at Maha Kumbh Mela, stampede incident broke out on the sacred banks of the Sangam Ghat in Prayagraj in the early hours of Wednesday. Death toll rises to 30 on this Maha Kumbh stampede accident. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is holding a meeting at his official residence over the stampede.
It was expected that 10 Crore pilgrims may come as Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya is considered to be the most significant ritual at the Mahakumbh.
Several people, injured who were rushed to the central hospital established in Mela area.
According to an official, “The barricading system was not very effective in crowd management. It led to the crowds walking longer distances and many were agitated over the last many days. There were choke points which were created because of these diversions… During the Shahi Snan as well, there was some chaos and the mounted police had to wade into the waters to manage the crowds taking a dip along with the sadhus. This time the crowds were simply too immense.”
A special executive officer Akansha Rana stated ANI, “On the Sangam routes, a stampede-like situation arose after some barriers broke. Some people have been injured. They are under treatment. It is not a serious situation…”
CM Aditya Nath appeal devotees, “do not try to go towards Sangam Nose.” He stated, “Maha Kumbh-2025, dear devotees come to Prayagraj, Take bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near which you are, do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam. Do not pay any attention to any rumours.”
According to some reports, stampede took place from Sangam nose area of Maha Kumbh at around 1:00 am.
