Borkhola MLA and Congress leader Misbahul Islam Laskar has made serious allegations against the BJP, claiming that the party tampered with ballot boxes during the recent panchayat elections in Assam.
Speaking at a felicitation event organized by the Cachar District Congress Committee in Silchar on Thursday, Laskar said,
“I suspect that the BJP changed some ballot boxes. During voting, many of our party supporters put Rs. 10 or Rs. 20 notes inside the ballot boxes along with their votes to check the fairness of the process. But during counting, we didn’t find any of those notes. This makes us believe that the boxes were swapped.”
The panchayat election results, declared on May 12, showed the BJP winning in most districts of Assam. However, Laskar questioned the fairness of the results and hinted at possible election fraud.
He also said,
“Many people are scared to speak out against the BJP, fearing backlash. But I truly appreciate our Congress workers who, despite such fear, helped us win several seats.”
