CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Orders DHE to withdraw PRC notice

The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) has issued a notice regarding the Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) without approval of government for appointment of professors, librarians, and Grade-III and Grade-IV. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma leading the situation he orders DHE to withdraw the Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) notice.

Several Assamese leaders criticized the Assam government’s Department of Higher Education for announcing that a Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) is not required for hiring assistant professors, librarians, and Grade-III and Grade-IV positions in PDUAM, GMC, and provincialized colleges. They claimed this decision goes against the state’s interests.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has clarified that the notice pertaining to Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) was issued by Director of Higher Education without approval of the government.

He also said that the government has ordered DHE to withdraw the notice immediately.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma ordered further enquiry on what authority the Director of Higher Education issued this circular.

He stated in x, “Enquire further on what authority the Director of Higher Education issued this circular. Such a circular could only have been issued by the Government, not by a directorate.”
