Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Numal Mahatta has initiated a large-scale reshuffle in the district police force, transferring 321 personnel through three separate orders within a week. The move has impacted nearly every police station and outpost in the district. This initiative aiming to break long-term postings and address allegations tied to extended tenures.

According to official notifications, the first order on July 31, 2025, transferred 100 personnel within the district. The second order, issued on August 4, moved 110 personnel, while the final order on August 8 shifted another 111 officers. Those transferred include unarmed branch constables, head constables, havildars, and naiks from Silchar Sadar, Traffic Branch, Katigorah, Borkhola, Kalain, Udharbond, Dholai, Sonai, and various outposts and petrol posts.

Many officers had been serving in the same stations for years, creating deep local connections. Sources suggest that such prolonged postings may have contributed to various allegations against some personnel.

SSP Mahatta believes this reshuffle will bring operational freshness, boost public trust, and ensure greater transparency in policing across Cachar district.
