A Special Court of Cachar has sentenced 20 years old youth Nairanjan Bhakata Monu of Lakhipur to 20 years imprisonment for sexually molesting or raping a minor girl.
The incident took place in May 17, 2023. On that Nairanjan entered the house of his neighbour and sexually assaulted a minor girl in the absence of her mother in the room at that night. The mother of the girl arrived at her room timely and make situation that forced the accused to flee by jumping out of the window.
Lakhipur police swiftly registered a case against Nairanjan under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Section 448 and section 376 (rape) of IPC. After the charge sheet file, the accused appeared before the court on July 12, 2023.
The Court found Bhakta guilty after 24 hearings under Section 4 of the POCSO Act. On September 6, 2024 the District and the Session Court of Cachar delivered the final judgement in the State of A”ssam Versus Niranjan Bhakat @ Monu” case. The case was officially disposed on September 10, and Bhakta was sent to Silchar Central Jail to serve his sentence.
The judgement of the case passed by the Additionally District and Session Judge of Cachar, which comes more than a year after the henious crime.
