Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: NIA arrest two accused

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two individuals which said to be the mastermind, in connection with the March 1 Bengaluru ‘s Rameshwaram Cafe Blast case.

The arrested persons have identified as Mussavir Hussain Shazib and Abdul Matheen Taha. According to NIA statement the arrested person Mussavir Hussain Shazib, believed to have placed the IED at the Rameshwaram Cafe. And other Abdul Matheen Taha, purportedly the mastermind behind the planning and execution of the blast.

The NIA revealed that the suspects were traced and apprehended near Kolkata in the early morning hours of April 12, 2024. Where they were hiding themselves under false identities. This operation, successfully carried out by the NIA, received support from coordinated efforts between NIA, Central Intelligence agencies, and State Police agencies of West Bengal, Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.

The arrest come after the anti-terror agency efforts to strengthen its investigation by expanding its focus to examine the social connections and previous relationships of the suspects, including their friends from school and college days.

Earlier, the NIA declare they’d give ₹10 lakh to anyone who could help find the bomber. They promised to keep their names secret.

They also put a picture of the suspect which captured from CCTV footage while placing a bag in the Rameshwaram Cafe. In this footage the suspect seen in a cap, black pants, and black shoes.

The case transferred to the NIA on March 3, following a visit by an NIA team to the blast site. The blast occurred at the cafe on March 1 in Bengaluru’s Whitefield area during the busy lunch hour where 4 people injuried. Among the four injured person three are employees of the popular neighbourhood restaurant. After the incident they immediately taken to the local hospital and currently receiving treatment according to officials.

Earlier, the Bengaluru Police had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Substances Act in connection with the explosion at the Rameshwaram cafe. A CCTV footage showed that a suspect placing a bag inside the cafe. An initial investigations indicated the use of an IED device with a timer for the explosion.
