Assam government is all set to carry out one of its biggest eviction drive yet, targeting around 1,143 bighas of encroached land in the Dahikata Reserve Forest area of Goalpara district. The large-scale operation is scheduled for November 9 and 10, and aims to reclaim forest land that has been under illegal occupation for several years.
According to officials, all necessary arrangements have been completed, and eviction notices were issued well in advance to the encroachers. The district administration, in coordination with the police and forest departments, has ensured adequate security measures to maintain peace during the operation.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated about the Goalpara eviction drive during live stream in social media on November 6.

This upcoming eviction follows a major drive conducted in June 2025 at Hasila Beel, where authorities freed nearly 1,500 bighas of government land from illegal encroachment. That operation targeted 667 unauthorised households and structures, including five schools. Despite repeated public notices and loudspeaker announcements asking residents to vacate by June 15, several illegal structures—such as homes, shops, and private pipelines—were demolished during the drive.
Officials said the Dahikata operation is part of the Assam government’s ongoing mission to recover encroached public land and protect forest reserves. The campaign aligns with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s “zero tolerance” policy against land encroachment across the state.
