Starting November 10, the Assam government has officially launched its Food Security Scheme, aimed at ensuring that essential commodities reach beneficiaries at highly subsidised rates across the state.
Under this initiative, families covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be able to purchase three key household staples at reduced prices — masoor dal (lentils) at ₹69 per kg, sugar at ₹38 per kg, and salt at ₹10 per kg. These items will be made available at all fair-price shops (FPS) throughout Assam. This will provide substantial relief to consumers amid rising market prices.
The scheme is designed to enhance food security and provide financial support to economically weaker sections of society. By lowering the cost of essential food items, the government aims to ease the burden on low-income families and improve access to nutritious food.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the scheme as the chief guest at the official event, reaffirming the state government’s dedication to strengthening Assam’s public distribution network and supporting vulnerable households through sustainable welfare measures.
