Assam continues to reel under a worsening flood crisis, with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) confirming that 5,15,039 people across 1254 villages have been affected as of June 2. The floodwaters have claimed 11 lives so far, with 1 new deaths reported on June 2, 2025. In addition, two individuals—one each from Hailakandi and Dibrugarh—have been reported missing.
As many as 22 districts remain affected, with Sribhumi among the worst hit, where 1,92,172 people affected. After the Sribhumi district, Cachar is among the worst, where 77,961 people affected. The district of Nagaon 67,880 people affected.

More than 322 relief camps have been activated. The government has also deployed multiple NDRF, SDRF, and Indian Army teams for search and rescue operations.
Heavy rains have triggered landslides in the hill districts, and several embankments have breached under pressure from swollen rivers.
Assam Flood: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Lakhimpur
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Lakhimpur district, one of the worst-affected regions, especially areas inundated by water released from NEEPCO’s Ranganadi Dam in Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking to the media, Sarma said a breach in the Pachnoi River embankment caused severe damage to Amtola and nearby villages. Immediate diversion through a nearby stream is being planned, and temporary embankment repair will start soon, with permanent repairs scheduled for post-monsoon (September).

CM on June 3, visit in Silchar flood affected areas. First, the Chief Minister visited the Government Boys’ School in Sadarghat, Silchar, where flood-affected people gave him a warm welcome by showering flower petals. Stranded children sang songs for him, and many people excitedly took selfies with him.

He also checked the availability of medicines and the presence of healthcare staff at the site.
15 Rivers Flowing Above Danger Mark
Multiple rivers in Assam are flowing above the danger level:
- Brahmaputra: Neamatighat, Tezpur
- Barak: Chota Bekra, Fulertal, AP Ghat, BP Ghat
- Other rivers in spate: Subansiri, Burhidihing, Dhansiri, Kopili, Rukni, Dhaleswari, Katakhal, Kushiyara
Today, IMD has given orange alert in Assam. The Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, has forecast:
- Moderate rainfall at most locations
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated spots
- Extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas
Transport Disruptions due to flood in Assam
A Northeast Frontier Railway spokesperson said:
- Two trains cancelled due to waterlogging at Silchar washing pits
- One train rescheduled
- Majuli-Jorhat ferry services suspended for the second consecutive day
