The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four cricketers with immediate effect and lodged a police complaint following allegations of corrupt practices during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025. Officials said the decisive action taken to safeguard the integrity of the sport.
The suspended players — Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri — have represented Assam at various levels. According to the ACA, they accused of attempting to influence and instigate members of the Assam squad that competed in the domestic T20 tournament.
After the allegations surfaced, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit conducted an enquiry. Based on its findings, the ACA initiated criminal proceedings and filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Crime Branch of the state police.
“Following the allegations, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit carried out an enquiry. The ACA has also initiated criminal proceedings. Prima facie, there appears to be involvement in serious misconduct affecting the integrity of the sport,” ACA secretary Sanatan Das said.
Assam played its SMAT league matches in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8 but failed to qualify for the Super League stage.
The ACA stated that the suspensions were imposed to prevent any further escalation of the situation. The ban will remain in force until the investigation is concluded and a final decision is taken by the association.
During the suspension period, the four players are barred from participating in any ACA-organised state-level tournaments or matches, including those conducted by district units and affiliated clubs. They are also prohibited from engaging in any cricket-related activities, such as serving as coaches, umpires or match officials.
The association has instructed all district cricket bodies to strictly enforce the suspension and inform clubs and academies under their jurisdiction about the decision.
