Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced the construction of five new foot over bridges along the busy Khanapara–Jalukbari stretch in Guwahati. The initiative aims to ensure safer pedestrian crossings and reduce road accidents in one of the city’s most congested areas.

The announcement came after the Chief Minister reviewed various ongoing infrastructure projects in Guwahati, with a focus on enhancing urban mobility and traffic management.

Earlier in the day, CM Sarma, along with a visiting delegation from Bhutan, inspected the under-construction international terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport. Addressing the media after the visit, he confirmed that the new terminal is expected to be completed by the end of November 2025.

He further mentioned plans to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the state-of-the-art terminal, which is expected to boost international connectivity and increase passenger capacity in the Northeast region.
