Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 28 announced a new financial support scheme for students preparing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations in 2026. In his daily interactive video address, the Chief Minister stated that each eligible student will receive ₹300 per month, with the amount to directly transferred to their bank accounts to ensure transparency and timely assistance.

CM Sarma said, The Government of Assamis committed to supporting our students as they prepare for the HSLC exam. To give them an extra push in their preparation, we will give them ₹300 per month till their exams are over.” He added that the government will also provide free college admission for students, further strengthening access to higher education across the state.

This announcement comes on the heels of several major educational and welfare initiatives launched by the state government. Recently, the Chief Minister rolled out the ‘Nijut Moina’ scheme, aimed at empowering girl students and combating child marriage. Under the initiative, every girl student will receive ₹1,000 per month. With a budget allocation of ₹1,500 crore and an estimated 10 lakh beneficiaries, the scheme aims to boost financial independence among girls, delay early marriages, and significantly improve the gross enrollment ratio in higher education.

The government’s latest initiatives reflect a strong focus on expanding educational opportunities and providing sustained support to Assam’s student community.
