In the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scandal of 2013 and 2014, APS officer ADCP Sukanya Das arrest on Monday.

She arrested after an extensive interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police, which had summoned her for questioning on December 1, 2023.

Sukanya Das finds herself among the 34 officials named in the BK Sharma Commission report. Who is contributing to the escalating complexity of the ongoing investigation. The tally of arrests connected to the APSC cash-for-job scam now stands at four individuals.

Prior to Sukanya Das’s apprehension, APS Sajahan Sarkar, APS Aoicharjya Jibon Baruah, and Assistant Employment Officer Rakesh Das had already been taken into custody. The continued efforts of the SIT underscore the commitment to unraveling the truth and holding those involved accountable.

Non-compliance and Escalation

Sukanya Das had summoned by the SIT on December 1, 2023, for questioning. However, she failed to appear on the scheduled date, raising further concerns and intensifying the investigation.

Assam Government Response: Suspension of Civil Servants and Further Notices

The Assam Government responded to the scandal by suspending a total of 21 civil servants implicated in the scam. Among the suspended officers, 11 belong to the Assam Police Service (APS), four are Assam Civil Service (ASC) officers, with one each from the Excise Inspector, ARCS officer, and three Assistant Employment Officers.

Ongoing Investigations: Gazetted Officers Summoned

In a proactive move, the SIT issued notices to two gazetted officers, Nabanita Sarma and Kalyan Kumar Das. Both are from the Assam Police Service. Nabanita Sarma, currently serving as the ASP of Kokrajhar and Kalyan Kumar Das, under suspension, summoned to appear before the Crime Investigation Department (CID).

This recent development emphasizes the seriousness of the APSC cash-for-job scam and the authorities’ unwavering commitment to ensuring justice. As investigations continue, additional revelations anticipated in this high-profile case.
