Unidentified miscreants set fire on two truck carrying essential goods that were en route to Longmai, Noney, and Tamenglong districts in Manipur on Wednesday early morning.
In response to the incident, Rongmei Naga community has announced a complete boycott of all supplies to the Kuki community in Tamenglong and Noney Districts, starting immediately and continuing until further notice.
The incident took in the early hours of Wednesday, between Lhangnom village and Old Keiphundai village in Tmenglong.
According to police eight truck carrying goods, include rice, onions and potatoes were heading towards Noney, when unidentified miscreants stop the trucks and set two trucks on fire. The remaining six trucks managed to escaped from the scene.
In a press release, the Rongmei Naga community condemned the incident, explaining that they have consistently asked the Jiribam Police to allow all vehicles, loaded or empty, to travel freely on NH-37 between Jiribam, Tamenglong, and Noney Districts without any security escorts. They also expressed appreciation for the Manipur governmentโs efforts to provide security convoys for trucks carrying essential supplies. The statement emphasized that this attack was not just on the trucks but on the entire community within the Naga districts.
The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization (RNSOM) also strongly condemned the attack, which occurred early in the morning between 5:30 and 6:00 AM. Two trucks carrying essential goods such as rice, onions, and potatoes were ambushed by armed Kuki militants, who reportedly fired multiple rounds and set the trucks ablaze. This incident follows a similar attack at Kaimai along NH-37 and, according to the press release, seems aimed at destabilizing the Rongmei people within their own territory.
