A group of 44 individuals, reportedly from Jammu and Kashmir, were detained by local residents near the New Tinsukia Railway Station at Hijuguri, Assam, sparking fresh concerns over the rising movement of outside labourers toward sensitive border districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Locals said the group had arrived in Tinsukia on the Amritsar Express. When questioned, their responses varied — some claimed they were heading to Roing for electrical tower-related work, others said they were bound for Dibrugarh, while a few even mentioned Anini, a district situated close to the India–China border.

This incident follows a similar episode in Tezpur, where police detained a group of labourers suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals. They had claimed they were travelling to Tawang, another strategically sensitive border region, for labour work.
The repeated movement of labourers from J&K toward areas such as Tawang, Anini, and Roing has stirred suspicion among local communities. Many residents are questioning why workers are being brought from faraway states to border regions when the Northeast already has a considerable local workforce. Local residents have alerted both Tinsukia Police and Railway Police, prompting a deeper investigation into the intentions, movement, and employment details of the detained individuals.
