Assam police arrested 10 people after a police driver sustained injuries on November 9 following an attack by mob. The police driver was attacked when a police team had gone to resolve the quarrel between two families, in Hailakandi.

Hailakandi Senior Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha said that an altercation erupted in Abdullahpur village following a dispute over the plantation of betel nut trees. “Police were informed about the incident, and a team was sent to the spot to resolve the matter. However, upon reaching the village, some individuals began pelting stones at the police team,” Sinha told reporters.

During the attack, the front and rear windshields of the police vehicle were shattered, and the driver sustained injuries before being taken for medical treatment, the officer added.

Following the incident, additional police personnel were deployed to restore order in the area. “We have apprehended 10 persons, and an investigation is underway to identify and arrest others involved,” Sinha said.

Authorities later confirmed that peace has been restored in Abdullahpur and that the situation remains under control.
