Woman’s Reservation Bill has passed in the Lok Sabha with support of 454 members on only two vote was against. India Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the passage of the Nari Shakti Adhiniyam in the lower house of the Parliament was a ‘golden moment of India’s parliament journey’ on Thursday. Nari Shakti Adhiniyam is also known as Women’s Reservation Bill.

Today Narendra Modi said in the parliament, “ Yesterday was a golden moment for the India’s parliamentary journey, and every member of this House and every leader of every political party is a part of that. I thank you all for supporting this Bill,”
He also added by saying, “…And to complete this sacred work, the way the members of parliament have supported the Bill, I thank you from the bottom of my heart,”
The Bill received resounding support in the Lok Sabha, with 454 members voting in favor and only two against it. This overwhelming majority easily surpassed the two-thirds threshold required for constitutional amendments.

Rajya Sabha Approval on Woman’s Reservation Bill

The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, also known as the 128th Constitution (Amendment) Bill, is now set to be approved by the Rajya Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his confidence that the bill’s passage in the Rajya Sabha would further empower women. Enhance their participation in the country’s political process.

Implementation Timeline

While the bill has been passed, its full implementation may take some time. It applies to the Lok Sabha, the Delhi legislative assembly, and state legislatures. It also introduces quotas for women within the existing reserved seats for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. However, the implementation will likely require several years. Political reservations for women will come into effect only after delimitation, a process involving the revision of seat numbers and constituency boundaries. This can occur after 2026, following the publication of relevant census figures.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X on 20 September after the bill passed, PM Modi shared a post via X which read, “Delighted at the passage of The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Lok Sabha with such phenomenal support.”
Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced by Union minister of state for law & justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday.
