Uttarkashi Massive Cloudburst Triggers Landslide, 4 Dead, 50+ Missing

At least four people died in massive cloudburst that took place in Dharali village of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand on Tuesday at around 1:45 pm. This cloud burst has cuts all the connectivity to the Gongotri Dham. The disaster triggered a surge of water and debris that swept through the region, prompting an urgent multi-agency rescue and relief operation.

According to reports, the cloudburst that triggers landslide has took place just 4 KM from the Indian Army Camp at Harsil in Dharali village.

The affected region is located near Mukhba, the winter abode of Ganga Ji, and the sacred Gangotri Dham. Videos captured by tourists reveal a powerful stream of debris rushing down the hills, destroying houses and uprooting vegetation in its path.

Uttarkashi Massive Cloudburst: Uttarakhand CM stated Relief and rescue operation underway

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami stated,

“The news of heavy damage caused by a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region is extremely sad and distressing. SDRF, NDRF, district administration, and other related teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing. In this regard, I am in constant contact with senior officials, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”

He also added,

“Relief and rescue operations are underway by the district administration. Indian Army, NDRF, and SDRF teams in the affected areas of Dharali (Uttarkashi). People are being evacuated to safe locations on a priority basis, and the situation is being continuously monitored. The administration is fully alert and providing all possible assistance to the affected citizens.”

He added, “On the unfortunate incident of a cloudburst in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district, the respected Union Home Minister Shri  @AmitShahji gathered information over the phone. During this, he was informed about the relief and rescue operations being conducted by the state government. The respected Union Minister ji assured all possible assistance from the central government.”

PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah Expressed Condolence

Narendra Modi Expressed Condolence and stated, “I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I pray for the well-being of all the victims. I have spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami ji and obtained information about the situation. Under the supervision of the state government, relief and rescue teams are engaged in every possible effort. No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people.””

Home Minister Amit Shah Stated, “Spoke with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand regarding the flash flood incident in Dharali (Uttarkashi) to gather information about the event. Three nearby ITBP teams have been sent there, and four NDRF teams have also been dispatched to the site, which will soon arrive and engage in rescue operations.”
