On July 2, a father and five-month-old son died after a house mud wall collapsed due to continuous rainfall in the Udharbond area of Cachar district. In this incident, four other people also injured.
The incident took place today in the early morning in the Durganagar area of Udharbond, Cachar district, Assam. Due to continuous rainfall, the mud wall of the house became very weak, due to which the tragic incident occurred. At around 5 a.m., when all the 9 family members were sleeping, the mud wall broke and fell on them. During the mud wall break, the family shouted.

By listening to the sound, the local residents ran to the scene and started rescuing them, who were buried under the ground. The neighbours somehow recovered four family members alive but could not rescue a father and five-month-old son alive.
The deceased father identified as Ajim Uddin Borbhuiya, age 35, and his son Asim Uddin Borbhuiya, age 5 months. The four other family members were injured. In this incident, the wife of Ajim Uddin Borbhuiya right leg has broken. The Udarbond Police arrived at the scene and sent the dead body to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
Heavy rainfall continuously took place in Cachar district for two days. The river’s water level is also rising.
A neighbour said, “Heavy rainfall continuously took pace for two days in Durganagar Part-1 Udharbond, for this reason the mud wall has become weak of the house. Today, from around 5.00 a.m. to 5.30 a.m., the wall suddenly collapsed where the son and father were sleeping on the bed and died in the incident. We nieghbours went to the scene and started rescuing the people of the family. A woman’s leg has broken, and the three others have injured. We call police and media.”
The community mourns for the loss of the child and a father and also called government immediate intervention and financial support. The family is so poor but they did not get any PM Awas Yojana which ensures for house for all. Even the family does not have any kind of Ration card.
