For several days a heavy rainfall took place in Assam. Yesterday, on 19 June, because of continuous rainfall, a devastating landslide took place in the Badarpur area of Karimganj, Assam. This incident took life of 5 people of a single family. Among the died person there is also a 3 years old child.
According to reports last night, a landslide took place in the village of Tajurtol in the area of Bandargot, Karimganj at around midnight. This landslide collapse a home of a family where five people died.
The deceased, identified as Raimunnessa age 55 the wife of Abdul Karim, their daughter Saheda Khanam age 18, Jaheda Khanam age 16, Hamida Khanam age 11 and grandson Mehedi Hasan age 3.
They all died because of suffocating under the debris of the landslide that collapsed in house. When the landslide took place, they all was sleeping.
When the police called about the incident, they immediately rushed to the scene with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team. The rescue operation conducted and at around 2.00 am recovered the dead bodies from the debris. Following the incident the deceased family member Abdul Karim said, “I came to house at around 11 pm and as soon as I lay down to bed and felt slept. Suddenly I heard a huge crashing sound and thought that my house is under the debris of the landslide. So, I immediately rushed out of my room and saw one of my family members stuck under the debris. Some, how I could her but rest of the five person was under the debris.”
This continuous rainfall also rising the water level of the river. Many areas of the place in under flood.
