A shocking incident has surfaced in Silchar after a minor girl from Silchar alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside a hotel room on November 9 (Sunday). Police have arrested three youths Swarup Das, Rahul Das, and Abhishiek Roy (alias Shubham) from Rongpur— in connection with the case.
According to the FIR and the survivor’s statement, the minor (below 18 years) claimed that Swarup invited her to a party at a hotel located on Park Road. She alleged that inside one of the rooms, Swarup forced himself on her throughout the night, while the other two accused assisted him. She reportedly managed to escape the next morning (Monday, November 10) and informed her family, following which a complaint was lodged at the police station.
Based on the FIR, Silchar Police registered a case under Sections 64(1)/127(2)/74/76/324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Sections 4/8 of the POCSO Act. After preliminary investigation supported the survivor’s version, police arrested the accused on Monday night. They were produced before the court on Tuesday and subsequently remanded to police custody for interrogation.
Silchar SSP Partha Protim Das (IPS) confirmed the arrests, identifying the accused as:
- Swarup Das (26), S/O Satyendra Das of Koratigram, Rongpur Part-4, PS Silchar
- Rahul Das (31), S/O Lt. Dipak Kumar Das of Rongpur Part-4, Gangapara, PS Silchar
- Abhishiek Roy (24), alias Shubham, S/O Lt. Debasish Roy of Rongpur Part-4, Gangapara, PS Silchar
Swarup, considered the primary accused, has been booked under the stringent POCSO Act. Rahul Das, who allegedly arranged the hotel room, may also face action under relevant BNS sections, Cachar Police confirmed.
However, sources close to Swarup have denied the allegations, claiming that a dispute over a mobile phone during the party may have led to a “false complaint”. Police have not commented on these counterclaims.
