Teenage Girl Drowns in River near Dholai Immersion Ghat, Cachar

A tragic incident took place in Dholai, Cachar where a 13 years old girl drowned near Dholai immersion ghat in Rukni River around 3 pm on October 14, 2024.

According to information, the incident took place just 30 meters from the Bisharjan Ghat in Sadargram, Dholai, Cachar. The girl who drowned identified as Saptami Das, residents of Ward no.16 in the Katakhal area of dholai. She has visited her aunt’s house in Sadargram, to celebrate Durga Puja.

The teenage girl Saptami was being living at her aunt’s house for a few days during puja festivals. On October 14, Bijaya Dashami, idol immersion was going on at the Ghat.

Cachar

Saptami along with her cousin sister went for bath in the Rukni River when she suddenly drowned. Her cousin witnessed the incident and immediately raised an alarm, which draws attention of nearby residents. Her Aunt and locals immediately attempt to locate her in the water, but despite their immediate effort, Saptami went missing.

Upon learning about the incident the Dholai Police Station officer-in-charge, Inspector Manuj Barua arrived at the scene with his team. SDRF team was notified and reached the location at around 6 pm. SDRF team search but she was still missing.

However, with the darkness setting the search suspended and confirmed that the search for Saptami will resume on October 15, 2024 morning.
