Singapore authorities have officially forwarded singer Zubeen Garg ’s post-mortem and toxicology reports to the Assam Police, a pivotal development in the high-profile investigation into the singer’s death while swimming in Singapore on September 19 at age 52. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed on October 31 that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is making “substantial progress” and will submit a chargesheet within the 90-day deadline.

“When our SIT visited Singapore, the authorities assured full cooperation. Today, they have sent the post-mortem and toxicology reports, along with guidelines under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT),” Sarma stated to reporters. The 10-member SIT has arrested seven individuals so far, all of whom are currently in judicial custody.

Sarma, who also serves as Assam’s Home Minister, expressed confidence in the investigation’s trajectory. “The SIT is confident about ensuring justice for Zubeen Garg. When it files the chargesheet by December 17, people will appreciate their work,” he said. The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to a thorough probe into Garg’s death while assuring that other key state issues remain a priority.

Additionally, Sarma criticized the Congress party, accusing them of efforts to “make Assam a part of Bangladesh,” referencing a recent controversy involving Congress Seva Dal members allegedly singing Bangladesh’s national anthem at a meeting in Sribhumi district. The state government has ordered an inquiry into this incident.

Highlighting broader concerns, Sarma also underscored that issues such as ‘love jihad’ and land encroachment continue to be major priorities for the Assam government alongside the ongoing investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death.
