A retired school teacher from Silchar was detained by the Cachar Police on Tuesday (November 11) for allegedly posting an insensitive and politically charged remark on social media about the recent Delhi blast incident.
The individual has been identified as Nazrul Islam Barbhuya, a resident of Durgapur, Rongpur under Silchar Sadar Police Station. According to police sources, Barbhuya had commented “Election is coming ahead” on a social media post related to the blast — a remark that authorities believe attempted to give a political angle to a sensitive national security issue.
Barbhuya is a retired teacher from Banskandi NMHS School in Cachar.

Following his detention, Barbhuya was brought to the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Cachar for questioning.
Speaking about the incident, Additional SP of Cachar Rajat Kumar Pal said on Tuesday,
“At a time when different agencies are investigating the Delhi blast and news is spreading, some people are trying to use this for their vested interests and are attempting to politicise it. This might draw a communal turn and create divisions between communities.”
Pal added that the district’s social media monitoring cell had flagged Barbhuya’s post for review. “We received information that a resident of Silchar, Nazrul Islam Barbhuya, commented from his social media page and tried to give a political angle to the news. We have apprehended him and are interrogating to determine his motive — whether there was an attempt to divide the community,” he said. Police confirmed that Barbhuya admitted to making the comment on his own.
