A tragic incident took place in Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 8, 2024. One people died and several injured following stampede like situation in Puri, Odisha during the pulling of the chariot ceremony during Rath Yatra.
According to report, the person critically injured during chariot pulling process. The person fell to the ground and died of suffocation. After this incident, a stampede like situation took place in which at around 15 people injured.
The deceased has not identified yet, he said to from outside the Odisha. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Maji announced ex-gratia to the family member of died person. The district administration quickly sent emergency services and took the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The incident occurred on Bara Danda, the Grand Road of Puri where the Rath Yatra took place. The chariot pulling ritual started on 5,20 pm. This President Droupadi Murmu was present Puri in Grand Rath Yatra. ย Odisha Minister Krushna Chandra said that on July 7, the chariot pulled for very little time but on July 8 it will pulled for whole day.
15 Lakh devotees participate in Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024
The Rath Yatra of Puri is the annual celebration where lakh lakh people participate. On this day Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra taken from their home in the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, which is their auntโs temple.
This year Rath Yatra will be celebrated for two days, July 7 and July 8 2024.
