Hundreds of protestors have gathered outside the school main gate, blocking entry and disrupting the half-yearly exams. The protestors included, locals and guardians, demanded swift action against two students accused of serving beef, which is a sensitive issue in the mainly Hindu area.
The communityโs frustration grew due to lack of response from the school administration.
A formal complaint, signed by 69 guardians, submitted to the Circle officer of Palashbari Revenue Circle.
According to complaint, two students of class 8 in the hostel allegedly offered beef to their Hindu classmates during lunch break on September 19, in the Carmel School in Andherijuli, Kamrup.
The Protestors said that the Principle of the school didnโt take any effective action to address the issue, increasing discontent within the community.
DSP Kamrup (Rural) Rajiv Kumar Saikia stated, “Yes, we have received reports about the controversy regarding beef being served to students. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.”
On Monday, two guardians approached the school administration to filed a formal complaint but they claimed the principal tried to downplay the situation instead of taking corrective action.
This inactive action led the large protest following days, as over hundred guardians and resident gathered in front of school, Kamrup demanding accountability and action against the students who offered beef.
In response to the protest police team with magistrate arrived at the scene to ease tensions. They also assured the protestors that matter will investigate and appropriate actions would be taken.
