Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hoisted the saffron Dharma Dhwaj atop the newly constructed Ram Temple in Ayodhya, marking the formal completion of the temple’s construction. The 10-foot flag features the image of the Sun, the sacred ‘Om’, and the Kovindara tree, symbolising sacrifice and spiritual strength.

The flag was hoisted during the Abhijit Muhurat, an auspicious planetary alignment in Hindu tradition. Following the ceremony, PM Modi is scheduled to address the gathering. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Dharma Dhwaj reflects dignity, unity and the enduring ideals of Ram Rajya.

PM Modi was accompanied by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Addressing the event, CM Yogi said the Ram Temple stands as a “symbol of the faith and self-respect of 140 crore Indians.” He added that the flag signifies the eternal light of Dharma and the timeless principles associated with Lord Ram.

Officials from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust confirmed that the ceremony marked the official completion of the Ram Temple. General secretary Champat Rai said the flag represents the rising sun, embodying dedication and sacrifice. The Trust will change the flag twice every year—during the spring and autumn Navratris. Made with special parachute fabric and silk threads, the flag is designed to withstand intense sunlight, rain, and wind.

Before the flag-hoisting ceremony, PM Modi performed pooja at the Ram Lalla Garbha Grah and visited the Mata Annapurna Mandir and the Saptmandir, which houses temples dedicated to Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Agastya and Maharshi Valmiki.

The event drew nationwide attention as Ayodhya witnessed another historic moment following the consecration of the Ram Lalla idol earlier this year.
