Paracetamol including 50 others drugs fail quality test, raises safety concern

More than 50 drugs, including Paracetamol, Pantocid, Vitamin D3 Tablets, anti-biotics, high blood pressure, gastric, vitamins and calcium drugs has fail quality test by Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.

In the monthly drug alert list of August, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) declared more than 50 drugs as ‘NOT OF STANDARD QUALITY ALERT FOR THE MONTH OF AUGUST – 2024.’

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has published two list. One list where 48 drugs failed Quality Test and in another list five drugs declared as Spurious/Adulterated/Misbranded.

These products were manufactured by several companies including Hetero Drugs, Alkem Laboratories, Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL), Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Meg Lifesciences, Pure & Cure Healthcare and more.

The list of five drugs declared as Spurious/Adulterated/Misbranded are:

• Pulmosil (Sildenafil Injection)
• Pantocid (Pantoprazole Tablets IP)
• Ursocol 300 (Ursodeoxych olic Acid Tablets IP)
• Telma H (Telmisartan 40 mg and Hydrochlorot hiazide 12.5mg Tablets IP)
• Deflazacort Tablets ( Defcort 6 Tablets)

The actual manufacturer (as per label claim) has informed that the impugned batch of the product has not been manufacturer by them and that it is a spurious drug. The product is purported to be spurious, however, the same is subjected to outcome of investigation.
