Newly Constructed National Highway In Bongaigaon Collapse due to heavy rain

The recently constructed four lane National Highway from Tulungia to Jogighopa in Bongaigaon, Assam, has been facing several structural issue, as a part of road has collapsed due to heavy rain. The incident took place on 11 July, night when a large part of National High Way at Chalantapara in Jogighopa fell down, which raise concerns of accident.

The National High Way is constructed by RSBI an external company under a contract worth approximately Rs.636 crore. The highway is collapsing almost every day. Even the project is finished but the road has not opened yet. Many cracks and structural failures are showing up.

Bongaigaon National Highway

The local residents have expressed anger over the poor quality of the construction on the national high way. They blame the RSBI company and NHIDCL for negligence and corruption which is showing on the construction on the road. According to the locals the road was made with low-quality materials.

After the recent collapse, the construction team attempted temporary repair by filling the damaged area with stones and sand. But ongoing problems, which includes road collapse and crumbling roads, indicate more serious structural issues.
