A newborn baby was allegedly sold for ₹40,000 in Silchar after the biological mother was deceived by her husband and relatives. Police have rescued the infant and arrested one person. While the child’s father and stepmother—suspected to be the key conspirators—remain absconding.
The arrested individual has identified as Amir Hussain, a resident of Madhurbonod’s Khilogram locality in Silchar. According to police sources, Amir acted as a broker in several deals and served as the middleman in arranging the sale of the newborn.
Mother Tricked and Baby Taken Away
The victim, Samirunnesa, originally from Bihardala under Ratabari Police Station in Sribhumi district, had recently living with her husband, Gulzar Hussain Talukdar, in a rented house in Khilogram. Gulzar’s first wife, Roshna Begum, was also frequently present. Police suspect that Gulzar, Roshna, and Amir jointly plotted to sell the newborn son.
Samirunnesa gave birth to a baby boy at Silchar Medical College Hospital on October 27. She discharged with her child on November 3 and returned home unaware of the conspiracy unfolding around her.
Baby Sold Without Mother’s Knowledge
Investigators believe that Gulzar and his first wife Roshna, with Amir’s assistance, sold the newborn for ₹40,000 without the biological mother’s knowledge.
After Samirunnesa filed a complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested Amir on November 12. During interrogation, Amir revealed the location of the baby, who rescued from a childless couple in Udharbond’s Durganagar. The couple, unaware of the fraud, had falsely told that Roshna was the biological mother and that the child given away willingly.
