In a tragic incident, six passengers were killed after being hit by a speeding train while crossing the railway track at Chunar Junction in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning.
According to officials, the passengers had just alighted from the Gomo–Prayagraj Express around 9:15 am and attempted to cross the tracks from the wrong side when the Kalka Mail, passing through platform number three, struck them. The impact was devastating, leaving the bodies mutilated beyond recognition. Authorities are working to establish the identities of the deceased, who are believed to be devotees returning from a pilgrimage.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the tragic incident and extended condolences to the bereaved families. Taking swift action, the Chief Minister directed officials to immediately reach the site and ensure relief and rescue operations are carried out on a priority basis.
He also instructed SDRF and NDRF teams to assist in rescue work and ensure proper medical treatment for any injured passengers. This incident in Uttar Pradesh occurred just a day after a deadly train collision in Chhattisgarh, where at least 11 people lost their lives when a MEMU passenger train rammed into a stationary goods train near Bilaspur station.
