The global tech industry is facing again another wave of mass layoffs in 2025. Several major companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, IBM and CrowdStrike cut thousands of job. A combination of sluggish revenue growth, global economic uncertainty and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence adoption is driving these significant workforce reductions.

Earlier in January, Google introduced a voluntary exit program targeting staff in its People Operations and Cloud divisions, offering generous severance packages, including up to 14 weeks of base salary plus bonuses.

IBM Layoffs: 8,000 Jobs Axed as AI Replaces HR Roles

IBM has reportedly laid off around 8,000 employees, most of them from the Human Resources department. As the company deploying the AI-powered tools to handle tasks previously managed by HR personnel.

Meanwhile, IBM CEO Arvind Krishna announced that the business is aggressively adopting artificial intelligence and automation as part of its aim to improve overall efficiency and performance. Amazon Layoffs: 100 Jobs Cut

Amazon has cut around 100 of roles in its Devices and Services division, which includes products like Alexa, Echo and the Zoox self-driving vehicle project. The company stated the cuts are part of a move to streamline operations and realign product strategies.

Xbox Division Layoffs Incoming at Microsoft

Microsoft is reportedly preparing another round of layoffs in its Xbox division. A Bloomberg report reveals that internal leadership is bracing for significant staff cuts, marking the fourth major layoff wave in the Xbox unit since early 2023.
