MBBS Student from Assam Dies found hanging in AIIMS Bhubaneshwar

A Second Year MBBS student from Assam died by suicide at AIIMS Bhubaneshwar, police said on Thursday. The student identified as Ratnesh Kumar Mishra (21) from Dibrugarh, Assam found hanging in his hostel room on Tuesday.

Official stated that the student of AIIMS found hanged himself in his hostel room (Hostel B, room no-502) from ceiling fan. On Wednesday he was to appear for his second years exam. On Tuesday he returned from his hometown after 10 daysโ€™ vacation with his father.

An Official stated that His father stayed at a hotel overnight after having dinner with him. He said he got a call from his son on Tuesday, and they planned to visit Jagannath Temple in Puri the next morning.

In the dame day, his father again called the student and became worried as the studentโ€™s didnโ€™t respond to multiple phone calls. He learned that the victim has sent an audio message to his younger son in Assam. After receiving the distress called from younger son, the father immediately came to the hostel to find out the reason. When he went to the hostel he found that the room was locked from the inside and no response was coming from inside the room.

His father and some other students broke the door and found him in hanging at around 10:30 am. After receiving the information, the security officer reached there. He was immediately taken to the emergency but declared dead. The incident informed to the police.

Police also found a suicide note from the room. Amhimanyu Das, Inspector-in-charge of Khandagiri police station said, โ€œthe student wrote in the letter that nobody was responsible for his death. He expressed his frustration over his life. We are investigating the case after unnatural death case.โ€

In Audio message that sent to the victim younger brother state requesting their father not to sell their land. In the message, he also advised his brother to pursue a career in medicine but stay in Assam.
