Today (May 5) afternoon, massive fire broke out at Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Flames and smoke were seen from far away. No casualties reported as of now. For safe, the entry of devotees was temporarily suspended but resumed after fire was extingused.

Massive fire broke out near the Shankh Dwar, on the premises of Mahakaleshwar Temple. Initial reports indicate that the fire may have started from a battery located above the CCTV control room, after the battery exploded.

After getting about the fire incident, Fire brigade immediately rushed to the scene and took control over it after around 20 minutes of intense effort.

Pratham Kaushik, Mahakal Temple Administrator, said, “The fire broke out above the control room area. The Air Quality Management System of the Pollution Control Board was completely destroyed. The cause is yet to be determined.”

Ujjain Collector Roshan Singh said that, “Fifteen minutes back, the batteries at the pollution control board’s air quality management system exploded, which caused the fire. It is above the control room of the temple. Fire tenders reached and the fire was controlled. There are no casualties. Since the fire was at the control room, the ‘darshan’ was temporarily halted.”
