Man Injured in Shooting Over dispute in Assam’s Rangia

In the area of Rangia, Assam, two round of shot were fired at night during a dispute. In this dispute, a man was hit in the left thigh and of the shot and went to local police station for help.

The incident occurred at Dipti Nagar locality in Rangia on Thursday midnight. The man who fired two rounds identified as Jyotiprakash Sharma. He fired rounds at Mridul Baniya from his registered 0.32 mm pistol after a verbal argument.

After listening about the incident, the local police arrived at the scene and seized the weapon. Jyotiprakash Sharma also accused for terrorizing the area, with similar incidents reported in the past.

The locals of the area stated that he previously threatened other with his registered gun which left them scared. Meanwhile, the injured Mridul Baniya was taken to Nalbari Medical College for treatment, and the police have launched an investigation. Sharma has claimed that he kept the firearm for his personal security.

A local residents said, “No one can step out of their homes as he brandishes his firearm and threatens people. This has become a daily affair. We cannot sleep at night as he keeps firing his weapon. We are terrorized by his actions. In 2022, he fired at near a place of worship during Durga Puja causing people to flee almost ending in a stampede.”

He also added, “We urge the authorities to ensure rule of law is brought back here. We want strict action against him. The injured has been referred to Nalbari Medical College.”
